Akbar once said to Birbal "Can you show me one diamond that costs only one paisa for eight? Can you show me honey that costs one
paisa for eight jars, and show me a good for nothing animal that I can buy for one - eighth of a paise?" Birbal went home and got a lamp, some water and a dog. He brought them to Akbar. He said to the King "The lamp gives more light than any diamond, and yet you can buy eight of these for one paisa. Water is better than honey to a thirsty man, and yet you can get it for free. And the hungry dog is a good-for-nothing animal because he follows anyone who gives him food." Akbar was pleased with Birbal's answers and gave him a present.
