    halves. Sentence (b) shows that Sita requests the king not to divide the baby

    into two halves. Similarly, in sentence (c) Sità proposes to give this (baby) to

    Lila. In sentence (d) Sita requests the king to let the baby live. All these sen-

    tenses are Imperatives because they show order, request, advice and proposal.

    In Imperatives, the sentence begins with the verb in the first form and the

    subject You' is, understood or implied.
